Sponsored Walk Update

Hi All!

In June I will be holding a sponspored walk at the Llanelli Millenium Coastal Park. The plan is to walk 5km, at the walker's own pace starting from the Discovery Centre.
If you wish to get involved in this please don't hesitate to contact me.
As with all other events that I have held there will be prizes for the most money raised. In this case the first prize is a Designer Jewellry set.

In this update I also want to thank the Glantawe Lions Club for their hugely generous donation of £250. Thank you very much for this and I will be keeping you updated on my progress :)
My fundraising is almost at the half way stage, and I'm trying to think of different events that would interest people, so if you have any ideas, please just drop me a line :)
Thoughts that have been suggested so far include a curry night, sponsored abseil and fun day. I'm open to any other suggestions that people might have.
Again, as always I'd like to thank everyone for their support and encouragement. It's a hard slog getting the training done and the fundraising sorted, but I appreciate so much all those that have taken time out to either attend events or to dig deep in their pockets to sponsor me. Thanks Guys!

Quiz Night Part III

Well I had my Quiz Night on Tuesday 25th March.

I created 8 rounds which ranged from general knowledge to music and from geography to history, including a round on Cuba!
I think everyone enjoyed themselves, there was a lot of laughter during the evening and everyone had a lot of fun.

Thanks to everyone that took part. The quiz night and the raffle for the Swans tickets brought my total for the evening to £180 so thank you very much to everyone for their generosity.

I'd also like to say a well done to everyone. On the night every team won a prize, either in the raffle or as part of the quiz night and I'd also like to say a particular well done to Rob for winning the Swans tickets, there was a lot of interest in that event, so well done for winning the prize :-)

The Forge Fach Community Centre deserve a particular thank you for allowing me to hold the event there as well as providing refreshments for the participators. Thank you for being so welcoming and helpful and I'd recommend their centre to anyone looking for a venue!

Possibly the next event will be a sponsored walk! Just waiting for the weather to brighten up a bit first ;-)

In the meantime I'll be holding car boot sales just about every weekend to try to raise the funds that way. If anyone has anything that they'd like to donate towards these boot sales please get in touch and I'll come and pick it up! (unless it's in France or Germany, in which case, I won't :p)

Quiz Night, Part II

So, with these new tickets for the last Swans Match at the end of April, hot from Liberty Stadium in Swansea, I have decided not to hold an auction, but instead have a kind of "Spot the Ball" competition (Thanks Nic for the idea!). There are quite a few people who can't make the date that I have set for the quiz night, so to actually make the tickets accessible to more people I've decided to do that type of competition instead.

The quiz night itself I will be holding on the 25th March. Contact me if you think you can attend and want further details. It's ticket holder only and costs £3.00 per person....so get your teams ready and come along for some fun :)

There will be a cafe available on the night for refreshments.

Training is going steady at the moment. I want to try to get out on my bike at least twice a week, I have a training plan at the moment, to steadily build up my endurance and fitness, so its not strenuous, but rather steady and regular. I managed to get out today, before the rain came sheeting down!

Quiz Night!

Well, with the treasure hunt now completed I began to think about what I could do next, some ideas included a sponsored abseil with a few friends, a bag packing day at a local supermarket or a curry night.
I was having a think about which could easily be sorted out when through my door came a lovely letter from the Management Company at the Liberty Stadium in Swansea. They have kindly donated two premier club tickets!

So I began to think about how I could really promote these tickets as well as some beautiful designer jewellery that I have had donated from CarrieElsbeth, and came up with the idea of combining an auction with a quiz night.

To help with this auction I have also had donations from Luisa Arianna (who has kindly donated some aromatherapy oils) and also La Tasca Spanish Tapas Bar and Restaurant, who have also donated.

So, the plan is to have a quiz night towards the end of March, and to have an auction to correspond.
Every penny will go towards the fundraising for Women for Women!

More information to follow.

Cuba!

So, where am I going?

Here's a few more details about the route that I will be taking next March:
Day 1 London - Havana
Day 2 Havana - Bay of Pigs
(Time to visit the small museum dedicated to the invasion in 1962)
Day 3 Bay of Pigs - Cienfuegos (85km cycling approx)
(Today's ride is mainly off-road through Zapata Peninsula National Park, following the coast and undulating all the way to the provincial Capital of Cienfuegos).
Day 4 Cienfuegos - Trinidad (81 km approx)
Undulating coastal road, followed by some short, sharp hills. After 20kms some stunning views of the Escambray mountains across a valley of sugar cane.
Day 5 Trinidad - Topes do Collantes (39kms approx)
Cycle into Trinidad and along the coast through the picturesque village of La Boca before turning inland.
Day 6 Topes de Collantes - Santa Clara (84km approx)
A tough 10km uphill section to start through pine trees and eucalyptus before beginning the descent to Santa Clara. Today is the most spectacular in terms of scenery with palm trees and tropical plants replacing pine forests.
Day 7 Santa Clara - Cienfuegos (80km approx)
Cycling through fields of sugar cain, entering the province of Cienfuegos. The final stretch takes us through the colonial heart of this beautiful Caribbean town.
Day 8 Havana
A day free to explore Havana.
Day 9 Havana - London
Day 10 London (Completely Saddle Sore and unable to sit for a week?!?!?)
It's going to be gruelling, sheer hard work and challenging (it is NOT a holiday!), but I will be immensely proud of myself and no doubt eager to do it all over again!

Car Treasure Hunt Feb 17th

On Sunday 17th I had a car treasure hunt to raise money for the Cycle Cuba event.

The treasure hunt took place between a local car park and a country pub and took the treasure hunters through both a country park and a national park.

On the Sunday the weather was perfect, although it was a bit chilly by the time the hunters had to walk through the park.

I had arranged a set of questions that each of the groups had to answer, they needed to collect a few items and describe the locations of some photographs that I had taken.

All in all I think everyone enjoyed themselves. It took a lot of organising but the feedback that I have had has been positive, to the point that I think I might arrange something similar for the Summer.

The first prize was a carvery meal, kindly donated by a local restaurant. Both the restaurant and the Country Pub were extremely helpful. More details can be found on my fundraising page.

I'd like to thank everyone that took part and am very grateful for their generosity and the sense of fun that they all had. So Cheers to all of you!
